Sensei Joe Varady has over 30 years experience in the martial arts. He began Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts in 1987 and currently holds a fifth degree black belt.
Over the past three decades, he has cross trained in eastern martial arts including karate, tae kwon do, judo, wing chun, and eskrima (to name a few), and various western martial arts, such as boxing, fencing, long sword, sword and shield, and various methods of armored fighting.

To test his skills, he attended the 2014 Northeast WEKAF (World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation) Nationals in New York City where qualified for a spot on the US team competing at the World Championships in Hungary. It was there that he took 2nd place in the world in full contact staff fighting and 4th in full contact double stick fighting. Not one to rest on his laurels, in March of 2015 Joe not only won 1st place in full-contact single stick fighting at the Doce Pares World Championships in NYC, but he also won the Northeast Taiji Fencing Championships held in Philadelphia’s Chinatown.

Joe is currently shares his vast martial arts knowledge as the head instructor of two programs: traditional martial arts through Satori Dojo and progressive weapons systems through Modern Gladiatorial Arts, both located in Phoenixville PA. He is also the current president of the Universal Systems of Martial Arts Organization, an active fellowship that provides practioners of different styles of martial arts with an open forum for sharing techniques and principles.

Joe holds a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and has written and illustrated four Cuong Nhu Training Manuals for adults, as well as two additional volumes for kids. His latest work, The Art and Science of Staff Fighting, is scheduled to be released as both a print book and an e- book by YMAA Publishing in October of 2016.

Also, he's just a helluva nice guy.
